Centres of Expertise

In the UK there’s a growing number of doctors with both interest in and expertise in Kawasaki Disease.  We are working to grow this knowledge base even further! Through our Childrens Hospitals Partnership Programme we are making active connections with more hospitals every month and providing training resources, information and more to doctors who have children in their care. Find out more about this ground breaking programme here.

This work includes sharing the most up to date information about Kawasaki Disease, how to diagnose it, how to treat it and how to care for children affected by Kawasaki Disease. Clinically accurate information is of the utmost importance – so our Societi Scientific Advisory Board directs this work. This Board includes leading clinicians who are experts in the fields of paediatrics and Kawasaki Disease. They are:

Professor Despina Eleftheriou – Paediatric Rheumatologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Institute of Child Health
Professor Paul Brogan –
Professor of Vasculitis and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital
Professor Michael Levin –
Professor of Paediatrics & International Child Health, Imperial College, London
Dr Tom Johnson –
 Consultant Cardiologist, Bristol Heart Institute
Professor Damian Roland –

Dr Tom Johnson leads a specialist clinic for adults with a history of Kawasaki Disease (at Bristol Heart Institute) which is open to patients from across the UK.

You will need a referral from your GP to be seen in a clinic by a specialist in Kawasaki Disease. Many GP’s are happy to make this referral, on request – if you are not already being seen by a Kawasaki Disease expert, or if you are seeking a second opinion.
